The week of June 22-28 takes us from Day 8 to Day 14.  This week we will highlight the moon crater Schrodinger, visible on Tuesday night close to the terminator.

Schrödinger on the moonSchrödinger on the surface of the moonSchrödinger is a large impact moon crater of the form traditionally called a walled plain and is named after Erwin Schrodinger, an Austrian theoretical physicist who developed results in quantum theory. This class of formation is known as a peak ring basin, which has a single interior topographic ring or a discontinuous ring of peaks with no central peak. It dates to the Early Imbrian period. This moon crater is located near the south lunar pole on the far side of the Moon, and can only be viewed from orbit.
